UTMB® a solidarity event

The Charity Committee

It promotes Solidarity within the UTMB®.

The Charity Committee selects the associations and ensures that their projects are in line with the values of the UTMB®. The commission ensures the diversity of the causes supported and that the associations represent the 3 UTMB® Mont-Blanc countries (France, Italy, Switzerland). The Committee members remain vigilant to ensure the right balance between international, national or local associations..

During the year, they encourage and ease communication  between the associations, runners and the UTMB® organization.  For that reason, the Committee is at the core of the charity bibs process.

During the event, they coordinate the actions of the associations and take care of the , logistics while highlighting the projects carried out, etc. Associations and charity runners benefit from a special welcome from the members and volunteers of the Solidarity Committee, in particular during the race pack collection and the " Solidarity Hour" that the Solidarity Committee co-organizes in their honor.

The Solidarity Committee is chaired by Jacqueline Ecochard and supported by volunteers from the 3 countries crossed by the UTMB® Mont-Blanc: Sylvie Barquant, Jocelyne Guichaoua, Federica Cortese, Michele Tropiano and Léandre Roduit.

The Solidarity Committee meets monthly and maintains close links with the charity associations in order to promote their work throughout the year. The Solidarity Committee is also very active during the UTMB® week so that spectators are aware of  the charity action and all those involved in the charity projects.

The solidarity is at the heart of the event

Since the very beginning, the UTMB® has always wanted to associate the energy of the event with a spirit of solidarity.

Our inner mountain culture gives great importance to human relations and mutual aid. It generates the desire to help others win their own battles: to overcome a difficult time, to fight a disease, to help children grow up and be happy.

So the UTMB®, in collaboration with les Trailers du Mont-Blanc, has developed several ways of collecting donations for charitable associations. The organization supports 5 associations through a donation system happening during the registration for each of its 5 events. Therefore, 160 SOLIDARITY RACE-BIBS are granted to runners who wish to support one of our partner association by donating at least 2000€, which can be paid directly or through sponsors who may help runners raise the sum. Furthermore, if they so wish, runners may take advantage of their participation to support an association of their choice.

The UTMB® has created strong links with the associations it supports, following up the implementation of concrete actions and favoring human exchange between the runners, the organizers and the associations.

A runner may register for a race – without having to go through the lottery - by making a 2000€donation  to one of the charitable associations supported by the organization (as per the current regulations). The runner may be supported by a donor/donors of their choice, private or commercial, to raise the funds.

In 2021, we guarantee a spot (there are only 160 spots available) to any runner who, directly or through a donor of his choice, donates 2000 € to one of the following associations. By donating, the runner also commits to become an ambassador for the cause they support.

The 4 associations supported thanks to the 2021 races are the following:

1. GIROTONDO

Girotondo is an Italian non-profit charitable association composed of people with physical, psychic and/or sensory disabilities who want to be the protagonists of their own lives. They collaborate with those who choose to share their path towards autonomy: for example, their families or technical and social workers wishing to tackle together the specific problems related to the different forms of disability.
The Girotondo association wishes to contribute to the development of a culture that considers the disabled person as the active and responsible protagonist of their life.
The Aosta Girotondo Association promotes and organizes activities to encourage the active participation in social life of people with disability and their emancipation.
The Girotondo Association promotes the exchange of knowledge and experience, through contacts with other social charities – public or private - working in the field of disability in Valle d'Aosta.

3. CULBUTO & ROTARY

is an association (as per 1901 decree) based in Montélimar, which works to bring its expertise and material help (direct intervention and/or financing) to rebuild buildings affected by natural disasters (earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, tsunamis ...) in a sustainable way.
The association is inspired by the resistant architectures traditionally used in countries exposed to natural disasters such as South America, Central America, Central Africa, Japan, China, Tibet... (not to mention Europe).

The projects developed are exclusively eco-friendly, using local materials and local workers.

Ongoing project: Reconstruction of the Chautara Library (Sindhupalchok District) in Nepal following the 2015 earthquake. The Culbuto association is chaired by a retired Architect.

4. PAKO'Z'OTRES

Pako'z'otre is a Swiss non-profit association created on December 15, 2015. Its objective is to brighten the daily life of families weakened by the hospitalization of a child. This small association is made up of 4 people driven by the desire to improve the daily life of children with cancer: this father, mother and godfather and godmother try their best to achieve their goal after having been closely affected by the loss of a child.

By supporting our association, you allow us to organize different activities or events to involve children of all ages in order to make them aware of solidarity, respect and difference.

More concretely, thanks to generous donors, but also to the sale of pastries, gifts, charity concerts and the creation of calendars involving more than 1'000 students, the association was able to achieve the following:
- more than 2'000 gifts collected in favour of the children of the CHUV
- 80 gifts delivered to Terre des Hommes in Massongex
- 500 t-shirts offered to the girls of the race la Montheysanne
- 10,000€ donated to the Pinceaux Magiques “Magic Brushes” to paint and create with the little artists in hospital.
- 3,000€ to ARFEC to enable 6 sick children to go camping
- 3,000€ to Les Anges d'Angeline to support the families of hospitalized children.
- 1,000€ to the Ligue Valaisanne contre le Cancer for local support in Valais

During these 5 years, the board of Pako'z'ôtre came up with thousands of ideas to make your generous donations bear fruit, to organize many moving events and especially to pass on a magnificent message of hope, carried by the desire to make things happen.
As for 2021, the association only aims to keep doing the great job started 5 years ago! Indeed, given our small size, we remain at the end of each year surprised by all the work we’ve done. So, I feel like saying... according to desires and requests... as long as we manage to offer happiness through our actions... we are satisfied!
